Our annual, periodized cycling program is science-backed and performance-based with the aim to produce peak performance during the summer months. Take part in our on-site instructor-led group classes. Ride your own bike on our CompuTrainers. Store your bike with us. On-going regular assessments used to determine initial personal training zones and monitor fitness improvements over time. Program levels and fees can be found here.

WattsUp offers a road race specific program each November to March. This is a program separate from the regular, more generic WattsUp program and is designed for cyclists who are competitive road racers or want to become competitive road racers. And while it is a "competitive" program, it is open to all levels of fitness... it is not only for the fastest racers. For more information, visit:

The same program that is being performed on-site in our studio, delivered to you at home over the internet. The WattsUp program performed on your schedule, at your convenience, at your home. Ultra-convenient and time-efficient, as well as cost-effective. More information / sign up here.

Massage is the assessment and treatment of the soft tissue and joints of the body for the prevention of physical dysfunction and pain reduction.

Miranda Tomenson is a Registered Massage Therapist and offers her RMT services on site at WattsUp Cycling. Miranda is a graduate of Sutherland-Chan School for Massage Therapy, McGill University and the University of Toronto. Miranda is also a lifelong endurance athlete and current professional long course triathlete. Her experience in cycling and triathlon and her knowledge of molecular biology, physiology, biomechanics, sports & massage therapy combine to give her an in depth understanding of the human body and how massage can help to optimize its function. Miranda's goal for each athlete is to enable him or her to return to their endurance sport pain free.

Miranda is accepting new clients/athletes and can be reached at

WattsUp members training in our studio have access to a cycling-specific strength training program. The strength program is done on-site in our strength training area, separate from the regular cycling program. The program involves an additional monthly fee. The program is very specific, basic (and therefore effective), safe, and monitored. Members who have the time and energy to incorporate the strength program into their regular workout routine are guaranteed to get stronger on the bike. For WattsUp members only.

WattsUp's founder/owner, Adam Johnston, remains active in personal coaching. Each year Adam works with a handful of athletes to assist them to achieving their endurance-related goals. He's been coaching endurance athletes since 1999, having helped hundreds of athletes remain healthy, train consistently, achieve new heights in their fitness, and go onto becoming first time finishers and setting personal bests. Adam's worked with first timers, seasoned age groupers, and elite athletes alike. Primarily triathletes, cyclists, and runners. He's been fortunate to work with athletes who have qualified for and competed in: Hawaii Ironman (age group), 70.3 World Championships (elite and age group), ITU World Championships (elite and age group), National Olympic Triathlon Championships (elite and age group), and the Boston Marathon.

Adam's focus while coaching is on ensuring the program fits the athlete. And not the other way around. He places emphasis on training-life balance, realistic expectations, enjoying the process vs the outcome, and balance within the training program. He has worked both with WattsUp Cycling athletes and remote athletes equally well.

Personal coaching is $300 / month +HST. Adam's roster is typically in flux through the fall, and settles in for the winter through to the following fall. Feel free to inquire anytime about the availability of Adam's personal coaching service.

Lactate Testing
We offer stand-alone lactate testing services. Athletes use lactate tests for a number of reasons, including to measure their current fitness level and help determine reasonable training zones/guidelines. Lactate testing requires 90 minutes of your time, only half of which is spent on the bike (or run). We use a ramp test protocol, which has you starting out very light and building throughout the test to a medium hard effort by the end. It is not a maximal effort test, nor are the results dependent on your level of motivation. Athletes walk away with a simple two-page report summarizing their test results and suggested training zones.
Lactate Testing = $150 + HST

Time Trialling
Athletes part of the WattsUp program undergo regular lactate testing. And they have the option of tacking on a 5 minute time trial at the end of their lactate testing session (which we encourage). The results of the time trial help solidify, and in some cases modify, the training zone guidelines determined from the lactate testing session. In addition, it provides a terrific real-time athlete-coach interaction where our tester is right beside the athlete, providing coaching and motivational cues. Unlike the lactate test, the time trial is a maximal effort test and the results are completely dependent on your level of motivation.
Lactate Testing + Time Trial = $175 + HST

Altitude training is a training tool that is used by almost all of the world's top performing endurance athletes. Yet it's never really distilled it's way down to the amateur / age group population, largely due to logistics and economics. For those athletes living in proximity to WattsUp Cycling, however, altitude training is now available. We have an altitude generator on site, courtesy of AltitudeTech, which allows an athlete to ride (or run) while breathing low-oxygenated air.

We keep the altitude training protocol simple, as we like simple. (It's easy to get lost in the science and application of altitude training.) Once you purchase your personal altitude training mask (from us), you get unlimited access to the altitude generator for the month. We'll provide instruction on how to use the generator, and guidance on how to implement it into your training routine. Though the nuts and bolts of the protocol is to spend as much time breathing low-oxygenated air while riding at an easy intensity as you can. Athletes find using the machine during warm up and cool down of their regular WattsUp classes convenient. And if they have additional time within their week, to do some short recovery rides at altitude in-between their quality workouts.
